Drysdale No-Gi Triangle on ATAC TV MMA

Robert Drysdale is teaching on ATAC TV MMA Channel, and this time, it’s Triangle Basics.  Using the strength of your legs and the tendon properly placed on your opponent’s neck and arm, the Triangle technique will get a quick submission.  This technique is used in MMA, sport Jiu Jitsu, grappling and many cage fighting style events.

This move is called the “Triangle’ because it forms a triangle when you connect your shin and hooking you other leg over your ankle.  The inside of that move forms a triangle and is very effective when that triangle is applied to an opponent’s neck and arm.  Makes it tough for him to breath, so you will get a tap out very quickly.  Robert explains the technique and walks you through the steps necessary to apply this to your opponent in the video linked below.  Take some time and learn an effective choke that will win the fight!

Drysdale’s Closed Guard Arm Bar Basics

Drysdale’s Closed Guard Arm Bar Basics

Robert Drysdale on ATAC TV MMA Channel is at it again!  Here comes another version of Drysdale’s Arm Bar.  This time, Rob is in the Closed Guard position on the bottom.  If you end up on the bottom, it’s not really a total disadvantage.  Robert shows you how to set up and attack with an Arm Bar.

Reach up and pull the head down and push the arm over to head while posting your elbow on the mat.  This will stop your opponent from dropping his elbow down and a possible escape form the technique.  Move your leg up over the shoulder and the other leg is putting weight down on your partners back and cross your ankles to trap.  Shift your body to the side under the trapped arm to throw the opponent off balance, while squeezing your knees together to trap the head, shoulder and arm together.  Now, wait for the opening, Push the opponent’s head to the side and move you leg over his head and trap the arm for the arm bar.  Pull his arm and hand up towards your head and arch your hips.  Done deal, he should be tapping right away.

Watch the video linked below to see the fine detail from Robert’s instruction and learn a very effective alternate arm bar submission from the Closed Guard position.

Drysdale Jiu Jitsu Paper Cutter Submission

Share/Save/Bookmark  (Tuesday, August 31, 2010)   by ATAC Staff

Drysdale’s Jiu Jistu Paper Cutter Submission

ATAC TV MMA Instructor Robert Drysdale is back at it.  One of Rob’s favorite choke is called the Paper Cutter.  In a side control position, Robert deepens an under hook on his partners neck and places his shoulder over his face to make him very uncomfortable.  The opponent tries to push him away, Rob simply reaches under his chest and with the back of his hand sweeps the arm under him as he raises his hips and moves towards the head.  Still controlling his partner, he reaches under the armpit and grabs the Gi near the back of the opponents.  Then it is a simple move to reach up with the other hand, grab the opponent’s Gi on the far side of his neck and drive the forearm down into windpipe.  The Paper Cutter!  Robert makes it look so easy, but this and another moves require practice to master the basics.  Watch Robert Drysdale in action in the video linked below.

Robert Drysdale No-Gi Arm Bar Basic Program

Robert Drysdale's No Gi Arm Bar Basics Program

Robert Drysdale discusses the basics required to employ the arm bar correctly.  The Arm Bar is a great submission tool and should be practiced carefully as to not injure your partner.  There are many different ways to achieve the arm bar position, but we are going to discuss the proper basics of what comprise the arm bar technique.

Robert starts with his partner on his back; Rob has one leg over his chest and the other leg on the partner’s face and/or neck area.  Robert has trapped the arm and is in position to apply pressure to the elbow.  Rob’s legs control the opponent with weight and his butt is tight against the shoulder with no space to allow movement.

First, control the hand, by the thumb or fingers and pull the arm straight back as you arch your hips.  This will increase the pressure on the shoulder and elbow joints and should result in a quick tap from your partner.  Be careful as to not injure your training partner and release quickly.  Watch Robert and Sean in the video below for the basics of effectively applying the arm bar.

Using the Gi and the Pocket Grip to Pass Guard

Using the Gi and the Pocket Grip to Pass Guard

Robert Drysdale has some tricks to help you Pass Guard with a Gi.  Using the Gi as a lever and handle, Robert sets up a pass and controls the opponent.  A simple technique is called a Pocket Grip, folding over a portion of the Gi and getting a grip with your fingers.  Robert grabs a Pocket Grip on his opponent’s leg, drives his shoulder into the ribcage to make the opponent uncomfortable as possible.  Rob also keeps the leg off the mat to stop any escape or Shrimping, he simply moves the pocket grip and leg to the side and passes from half guard to side control.  Great video with simple basics you should know.  See Rob on ATAC TV MMA Channel on the video link below.

Passing the Guard Basics Part Two

This program is a continuation of Passing the Guard Basic Part One and be sure you watch Robert Drysdale on ATAC TV MMA Channel to see that video first.  Robert gives you more options to pass the guard and how to make it harder on your opponent.   Using the Gi against him is an advantage and useful for many things.  Get your weight on him and make him carry the load.  You use gravity and weight with little energy and he must fight and burn his energy to deal with you.  Rob’s opponent move to block the pass, so as an alternate plan, Robert goes the other way tying up the opponent’s leg and stacking on top of him, and gains Side Guard and control.  Watch Part Two of Passing the Guard below.

Drysdale No Gi Rear Naked Choke with Finger Grip

Rear naked Choke with Finger Grip is almost the same as the original choke, with a few differences.  You can’t get your arm over his shoulder, release the seatbelt, bring that arm over and connect your fingers into a grip.  Robert Drysdale demonstrates the technique to lock the finger together, move your forearm to his back and  set the choke.  Pull your elbows toward your back and push on his head with your face to tighten the choke.  Watch Robert on ATAC TV MMA Channel for all the details of the Rear Naked Choke with Finger Grip!
